Anyone got any gifts over XMas they're jazzed about?

I got a copy of the Conan RPG by Modiphius.

Now it's absolutely time for a TTRPG filled with Lovecraftian worm monsters, booze, nudity, and gore. FOR CROM.

I got a copy of The Jewish Annotated New Testament. It's amazing. I squealed.

Also got a lovely blouse from some wonderfully affirming friends. It fits so nicely!

I got a 80" QLED TV for my living room. So I could finally move the 50" into my bedroom for the Playstation 4 Pro and Switch goodness.

A lot of booze. Which I'm not really sure what that says about me.

A bottle of 14 year Glenfiddich scotch
A bottle of a local distillery's whiskey, which I'll likely be using for mixing.
              A set of copper mugs.
A new bar spoon from Barfly(gunmetal).
A copy of Imbibe, a book regarding the historical accounting of cocktails from the 1910s and 1920s.

There might be a theme with what people got me this year.

@Seamus I've made it a point to close the MUSB tab when I've been drinking. Because I'll protect myself from reading something that'll seriously piss me off and I'll lose my filter of human decency.

I can however, RP just fine while drinking, so there is that.

Didn't you bail on a scene because drunk recently? :P

(I drunk RP all the time. It's fun.)

No, it was my bedtime because I didn't want to of drank so much and also have a lack of sleep for the next day at work. If it wasn't for the grammar errors, I'd say I RP better while drunk.

It's the New Testament of the Bible annotated by Jewish scholars, among them Amy-Jill Levine, who is well known in biblical studies circles for being both a practicing Jew and one of the most pre-eminent New Testament scholars in the world.

As you can imagine, she had a relatively rough time getting to where she is now. One place forced her to teach OT, even though her specialty has always been NT.

Anyway, it's full of brilliant annotations that really help Christians understand the text better while making the New Testament accessible to non-Christians (especially Jewish people, but everyone) in a non-proselytizing way. And it has fantastic essays on the historical developments of Jewish thought regarding various aspects of Christianity.

It should be required reading for every Christian.

@Rinel You might like Hart's New Testament also (if you don't have it already). It's been on my list to pick up and read.

I'm kind of iffy on Hart. If I want devastatingly literal I can just pick up the NASB (or, frankly, spend a week brushing off my Koine and going to town on it myself).

In general, I'm a fan of the NRSV. The NIV is nightmarish.

It can catch out issues that have been smoothed over by tradition. Like, w/r/t Mary, the Greek parthenos usually gets translated as virgin, but it can also mean young woman, and the Isaiaic prophecy of the Messiah says he will be born of an almah, a Hebrew word that usually means young woman of childbearing age. This is a useful thing to know in conversations about things like the Virgin Birth (though I started to profess the Virgin Birth a couple of weeks ago on different grounds).

I think the general idea is that he needed to be free from original sin which is apparently sexually transmitted.

That said, we should legit probably branch this conversation out of christmas presents before someone gets legit offended. :)
